Singer and rapper Kofi King Arthur popularly known as Kofi Kinaata says he is the 2020 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards ‘Artiste of the Year’.
Despite losing the award to Kuami Eugene, the ‘Things Fall Apart’ hit maker believes he is the true winner of the award.
On August 29, Kuami Eugene beat Kofi Kinaata, Sarkodie, Diana Hamilton and Medikal to win the ultimate prize for the first time.
Reacting to his loss, Kofi Kinaata insisted that the award belonged to him.
“I know I’m the Artiste of the Year. It was just on the plaque [for Kuami Eugene] but I knew it’s mine, Kofi Kinaata,” he told DJ Reuben on Luv FM.
The artist said he went into the competition with the aim of winning all categories he was nominated for.
However, he asked his fans not to be bothered by the defeat because he truly deserved the award.
“Looking at the year under review, it was Kofi Kinaata. I know my songs are the best…Majority of Ghanaians will say is Kofi Kinaata but aside the judges, anything can happen,” he consoled his fans.
The singer and rapper went home with three awards on the night including ‘Popular Song of the Year’, ‘Highlife Song of the Year’ and ‘Songwriter of the Year’.
