Ibrahim Mahama, one of Ghana’s most prominent contemporary artists, is receiving dental treatment after he was allegedly assaulted by police operatives in Tamale.
The founder of the Savannah Centre for Contemporary Art (SCCA) claims members of the IGP’s Special Operations Team, commonly called “Black Maria”, attacked him and his uncle during traffic congestion following Eid prayers near Mariam Hotel.
Mahama told Channel One News he lost one tooth and damaged two others in the altercation.

According to him, his uncle also sustained injuries.
However, the Commander of the unit, ASP Bawah Abdul Jalil, has a different narrative.
While he admitted his team was present in the region for the celebrations, he denied they were responsible, stating that “some youth” carried out the attack.
Mahama has since been discharged from Habana Hospital but awaits further dental surgery.
