On Thursday, 31st October 2019, the Accra Regional Police Command extended an invitation to charismatic and controversial preacher, Francis Antwi popularly know as Reverend Obofour to assist with investigations. The invitation came after a video of him supervising one of his congregants to smoke an illegal substance rumoured to be marijuana surfaced on social media.
In a statement to the Police, founder and leader of Anointed Palace Chapel stated he didn’t know what ensued between him and the alleged marijuana smoker because he was in a deep trance.
According to Rev. Obofour, he was possessed by the Holy Spirit and everything that transpired was by the directives of the spirit. He explained that it was the Holy Spirit who ordered the young man to smoke the banned substance during the deliverance service, and as a mere mortal medium, he cannot take credit for the work of the Holy Spirit. By extension, therefore, it would be illogical to shift any responsibility unto him.
The drama happened when Rev. Obofour was invited to the church of another popular Ghanaian preacher, Abruku Abruka for a three-day church programme.
During the service, Rev. Obofour asked if anyone in the Church auditorium had marijuana [wee].
A man identified as Razak owned up with a small box containing one roll of wee and Rev Obofour asked him to light it up to confirm if it was truly marijuana so he could deliver him from the smoking habit and he complied.
Meanwhile, the young man who was ordered to smoke the banned substance has alleged that he was contracted by the church.
