An immigration officer has died following a motorcycle accident at Assin Fosu in the Central Region, while a police officer who was riding with him remains hospitalised with serious injuries.
The deceased, identified only as Amoakoh and popularly known as Ahuoden, was the pillion rider on the motorbike at the time of the crash, which occurred around midday on Monday.
He was rushed to a nearby health facility by eyewitnesses but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The police officer, who is attached to the Central North Regional Command, sustained fractures to his left arm and leg and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital. His condition is said to be stable.
According to preliminary reports, the two were heading towards the Assin Fosu main lorry station when the motorcycle, for reasons yet to be determined, veered off the road and crashed.
Personnel from the Central North Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) have launched an investigation into the incident.
The damaged motorcycle has been impounded for examination as part of the probe.
The body of Amoakoh has since been deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
