Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has announced a significant improvement in the nation’s security landscape, revealing a 5.1% decrease in armed robbery cases over the past year.
Speaking at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) 2025 WASSA celebration, the Minister disclosed that total robbery cases fell to 1,142, down from the previous year’s figures.
The most notable progress occurred on the nation’s roads, where highway robberies plummeted from 312 to 228, a result of targeted operations along major transport corridors.
The Minister attributed the decline to “intelligence-led policing” and a faster response time to crime scenes.

He further announced a suite of government-backed modernisation efforts, including streamlining suspect identification, increased investment in Artificial Intelligence for criminal intelligence, tackling complex cybercrimes and strengthening the bond between the police and the public.
Director-General of the CID, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, lauded her team’s dedication during a demanding year.
She specifically highlighted the CID’s evolving digital strategy, noting that investigators are now leveraging platforms like Meta and TikTok for intelligence gathering.
Beyond violent crime, COP Donkor pointed to successes in child protection, reporting the safe recovery of several missing children through improved protocols.
She concluded by urging officers to maintain the highest standards of integrity and accountability.
