Islamic scholar urges Muslim youth to persevere amid misconceptions

An Islamic scholar has urged Muslim youth not to be discouraged by growing misconceptions about Islam, but to remain steadfast and deepen their intimacy with Allah.

Osofo Ahmed Kyei, an Islamic preacher, gave the advice while addressing participants at the 2026 Annual Youth Camp of the Youth Wing of the Islamic Mission Secretariat (IMS), underway at Bonsu in the Nkoranza South Municipality of the Bono East Region.

The four-day camp is on the theme: “Youth and Technology: Navigating the Digital Age with Islamic Values.”

Osofo Kyei indicated that misconceptions and negative perceptions about Islam were partly due to limited knowledge and understanding of the religion, stressing that Islam is grounded in the teachings of Allah.

He advised Muslim youth to remain vigilant and not be swayed by such misconceptions, but rather strive to study and adhere to the teachings of the Holy Book. He added that Muslims and Christians share a common aspiration of attaining heaven.

“As true Muslims, we are not enemies of Christians,” he stated, emphasising that Islam is a peace-loving and compassionate religion.

Osofo Kyei further urged Muslims to develop spiritual discernment and maturity to guard against deception, encouraging them to study both the Quran and the Bible diligently.

He noted that understanding both scriptures was crucial for strengthening and deepening one’s faith in God and Allah.

Mr Abdullai Zuyele, Organiser of the Wing, explained that the camp aimed at strengthening the faith of Muslim youth in Allah.

“We seek to renew our commitment to Islam, learn new things, and strengthen ourselves to prevent backsliding,” he said.

Other activities outlined for the camp include knowledge sharing, community outreaches, sporting activities, capacity building, and quizzes.
