The Italian Embassy in Accra has marked the 10th edition of its signature culinary event, “Flavours of Italy,” as part of the global Week of Italian Cuisine in the World.
This year’s edition on the theme: “Italian Cuisine: Health, Culture and Innovation,” emphasised the Mediterranean diet’s health benefits and Italy’s rich tradition of culinary creativity.
The celebration, hosted by Madam Laura Ranalli, the Italian Ambassador to Ghana, spotlighted Italy’s gastronomic heritage through a vibrant showcase of food, wine, and culture.
Madam Ranalli, said the initiative in its 10 years journey had advanced not just gastronomy, but also cultural identity and innovation.
She noted that Italian food and wine were more than just flavours, rather, they reflect Italy’s diverse landscapes, artistic heritage, and centuries-old traditions.
“Gathering around the table is a universal way of bringing people and cultures together,” she said.
Madam Ranalli called for a cultural collaboration, emphasising that food was a bridge – a way for Ghana and Italy to continue strengthening ties.
Mr Luigi Puca, the Italian Trade Commissioner for Ghana, Burkina Faso and Niger, used the opportunity to talk up the increasing demand for Italian food products in the region.
He implored on Italy and Ghana to deepen their diplomatic relations using trade and commerce.
The event drew a distinguished gathering of diplomats, government ministers and officials, business leaders, influencers, the media, and food bloggers.
Among them were Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Education, Dr Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, and Mr Michael Kpakpo Allotey, the Mayor of Accra.
Mr Iddrisu expressed the government’s gratitude for Italy’s support for technical and vocational education in Ghana.
He commended Italy for the €5 million grant for TVET reform and encouraged deeper Italian investment in Ghana’s education, manufacturing, and job-creation sectors.
Guests were treated to a rich spread of Italian culinary staples such as pizza, pasta, pastries, gelato, and more.
Food stands displayed premium Italian food products, while the ambiance was elevated with Italian music and cultural performances, turning the evening into a lively celebration of cross-cultural exchange.
A total of 20 wine and food companies partnered with the Embassy and the Italian Trade Agency to make this year’s celebration truly memorable.
Participating wine companies included Don Emilio Limited, Imexco Ghana Limited, Denzel Logistics/Lamborghini wines, among others.
