For all Ghanaian filmmakers aiming to win an award at the Oscars, perhaps, you may need to acquire a British or American accent to attain this feat.
This is according to renowned film producer, Leila Djansi, whose works have been appreciated globally.
She has asserted that her African accent has prevented her from achieving some things in her career.
According to the Ghanaian film producer and director who is based in America, she would have won a mainstream Oscar award by now if she had a British accent.
“Look if my accent was British, I probably have won mainstream Oscars already but because my accent is African,”, she said on Hitz FM.
Leila Djansi said she switches her accent to help her receive the recognition that is due her in America.
She explained that the moment people hear someone has an African accent, they immediately begin to doubt his or her capabilities and achievements.
Leila Djansi also advised actors who want international appeal to try and acquire foreign accents because it will be beneficial to their careers.
