A Koforidua-based journalist has been nabbed and slapped with three counts of defrauding by false pretence for impersonating Director of Communication at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin.

The journalist, Joseph Ofosu alias Nartey is said to have paraded himself as Mr Arhin and make wild promises to the people he defrauded.

Joseph is said to have promised people he will secure them auction cars and have them nominated as Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).

Documents from the court sighted on reveal that, Joseph had introduced himself as Mr Arhin and demanded sums ranging from ¢1,000 to ¢3,000, from people.

Mr Eugene Arhin is said to have officially lodged a complaint at the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) in August 2019, listing the phone number of a journalist who had allegedly interacted with people posing as him.

Investigations further proved Mr Arhin’s claims and state prosecutors found out that, the journalist allegedly asked his victims to deposit various sums into a number of mobile money accounts.

One of the mobile money accounts belonged to his girlfriend, and she told prosecutors Joseph had asked her to send some monies to him since he had asked people to send it into her account.

Joseph appeared before the Kaneshie District court today and has been remanded into police custody pending further investigations.
