Kaakyire Kwame Appiah proudly reveals he has 18 children with nine women — and wants seven more

Highlife musician Kaakyire Kwame Appiah has become the talk of Ghana after revealing that he is the proud father of 18 children — with nine different women — and, apparently, he’s not done yet. In a cheerful confession that left radio listeners stunned, the “Bronya” hitmaker announced that his next goal is to hit 25 children before hanging up his boots.

Speaking on Accra-based OKAY FM, Kaakyire said he decided to share the news now so that “people don’t find out at my funeral.” According to him, honesty is the best policy — especially when your family can fill an entire classroom. “I’m not shy to talk about my children. I don’t want to die before people come to the realization that I have these number of kids,” he said, laughing.

The highlife legend, whose youngest child is just four months old, defended his large family, saying he considers every child a blessing from God. “I have eighteen children with nine different women. I know people will criticise me, but honestly, what do you gain by hiding something that already exists?” he said.

To hear him tell it, the Appiah household is more United Nations than traditional Ghanaian home. He insists all 18 of his children know one another and get along well — so much so that outsiders often assume they share one mother. “My children are very close,” he said proudly. “If you see them together, you’d think they’re from the same mother.”

And what about the logistics of managing nine mothers and 18 children? Kaakyire brushed that off with the confidence of a man who’s clearly mastered scheduling. “It’s not difficult,” he quipped. “If you have wisdom and patience, it’s possible.”

While social media exploded with a mix of admiration, disbelief, and jokes, the musician seemed unfazed by public reaction. Critics called it irresponsible; admirers called it impressive. But Kaakyire, who has been in the music scene for decades, says he’s at peace with his choices. “Children are a blessing,” he reiterated. “If God gives you strength and means, why not?”

He also linked his large family to his faith and vitality, claiming both his spiritual and physical fitness give him “the capacity” to keep growing his lineage. “I’m healthy, and God has been good to me,” he said. “If I get the chance, I’ll have more.”

Few will be surprised if Kaakyire Kwame Appiah’s revelations spark a nationwide conversation about family planning, cultural attitudes toward polygamy, and the definition of parental responsibility. But for the man himself, it’s all simple: music, faith, and family — in that order, and in abundance.

And with 18 children already in the mix, the highlife star has officially entered a league of his own — one where the term “family man” may need a serious upgrade.
