Residents of Kadjebi in the Oti Region are divided over the recent barricading of the offices of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) District Director and Scheme Manager.
This was carried out by individuals believed to be affiliated with the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government led by Mr. Sampson Quarshiga, Akan Youth Organizer of NDC.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, September 15, has sparked debate among community members and party faithful.
Some residents support the barricading, arguing that the individuals currently occupying the positions do not deserve them, especially when others who also supported the party’s return to power in the 2024 elections remained unemployed.
They claim the current office holders were already gainfully employed and accused them of greed.
Mr. Kwami Avornyo, a resident who spoke with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), described the action as justified.
According to him, those already working in other offices should give way for unemployed party members to be appointed to such roles.
“They are greedy. The party must allow those without jobs to take up these roles,” he said.
An anonymous NDC member and a teacher by profession echoed this view, stating that Mr. Reuben Kemavor, the current NADMO District Director for Kadjebi, is already a School Improvement Support Officer (SISO) and questioned why he should now take on an additional public role.
However, other party members expressed concern over the protest.
Mr. Michael Ekpe, another NDC member, acknowledged that while some members may feel sidelined, the party lacked qualified personnel to fill certain positions and therefore defended the appointments, urging members to reflect on them and seek compromise.
“The party doesn’t have enough qualified people to man such offices, so we must support those appointed,” he said.
The issue continues to stir tension in the community as the NDC leadership in the area works to resolve the matter internally.
