The Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project has issued a formal advisory urging motorists without essential business in Kaneshie to avoid the area, following the temporary closure of the westbound carriageway of the Dr Busia Highway at Pamprom Junction.
The closure, which took effect on Monday, September 7, 2026, forms part of ongoing infrastructure works under the GARID Project. The development is expected to cause significant traffic congestion in and around Kaneshie, a current traffic hotspot.
GARID Project Coordinator, Dr Ohene Sarfo, advised commuters to consider alternative routes to mitigate the anticipated traffic build-up and facilitate the timely completion of the project.
“We advise that if you do not have any business in Kaneshie as a destination, you should, as much as possible, avoid the area, as traffic is expected to build up considerably,” Dr Sarfo stated.
Suggesting primary alternative routes for motorists, Dr Sarfo said motorists may utilise the Kwame Nkrumah Avenue through Abossey Okai or Kaneshie North to connect to the N1 highway.
Commuters may also use the Atta Mills Highway through Korle Bu and Dansoman, exiting around Mallam and Sakaman.
The Project Coordinator explained that diverting traffic onto these alternative routes would help reduce the volume of vehicles heading towards Kaneshie and alleviate pressure on the affected stretch.
Dr Sarfo appealed to motorists who must use the affected route to cooperate with traffic management arrangements in place.
He emphasised that such cooperation would minimise delays and enable the contractor to complete the works expeditiously.
“For those who need to pass through this area, we respectfully request your cooperation so that we can expedite this activity, complete it promptly, and reopen the route to traffic,” he added.
The GARID Project urges all road users to plan their journeys accordingly and adhere to the traffic management measures implemented to ensure safety and minimise inconvenience.
