Mr Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Keta Constituency in the Volta Region, has launched a skills training programme in leather craft for the youth in the municipality at the Dorveme community.
The programme, in collaboration with Soloko Ghana Concept Limited, a leather craft company, is to equip the youth with practical and employable skills to promote self-reliance and job creation.
Mr Gakpey, during the launch at Dorveme, disclosed that the training would also be facilitated by a German leather craft expert and would enable participants to produce shoes, leather bags, car seats, and other leather products to make them employable or able to start their own businesses.
“The move is to encourage the youth to take full advantage of the opportunity; vocational and technical skills remain a powerful tool for economic empowerment, and that must be our major priority,” he said.

He said the leather craft training programme marked a significant step toward youth empowerment, skills development, and local economic growth in the Keta Constituency, while the programme also reflected a shared commitment by leadership and partners to invest in the future of the youth.
Mr Gakpey said the training would benefit many community members, especially the youth, to acquire valuable skills and improve their livelihoods.
The initiative, he described, was a testament to the power of collaboration between government, private sector, and community in driving development and empowering the youth.

Mr Wisdom Seade, the Keta Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), expressed strong support for the initiative and assured the MP and Soloko Ghana Concept Limited of the Assembly’s commitment to supporting youth-focused programmes.
“The Assembly was ready to collaborate to ensure that trained youth are empowered to become self-employed and economically independent to strive hard for a smooth and successful future.”
The leadership of Soloko Ghana Concept Limited also commended Mr Gakpey for his vision, dedication, and willingness to partner with the private sector to create job opportunities for the youth.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to work closely with stakeholders to expand skills training and industrial craftsmanship in the area.
Mr John Benadzi, and other members of the Dorveme community expressed excitement and appreciation for the initiative and pledged their full support and enthusiasm towards the life-changing initiative.
They stressed that the programme was also expected to have a positive impact on the local economy, create opportunities for the youth to engage in productive activities, and contribute to the growth of beneficiary communities.
