KETASCO tops Volta–Oti Zone 2025 National public speaking competition

Keta Senior High Technical School (KETASCO) has been crowned the overall winner of the Volta and Oti Zonal contest of the 2025 National Public Speaking Competition (NPSC), securing a coveted place in the national championship scheduled later this year.

The zonal contest, held at Mawuli School premises, Ho, brought together some of the most competitive second-cycle institutions across the two regions.

KETASCO was grouped with Mawuli School and OLA Senior High School (SHS) in a highly contested category, while other schools, such as Agate SHS, Awudome SHS, Dzodze SHS, Tsito SHS in another group, with Akpafu SHS, Kadjebi-Asato SHS, Kete-Krachi SHS, Bueman SHS, and Oti SHS competed in the remaining groups.

After three intense rounds of presentations, KETASCO emerged with the highest score of the entire zonal contest: 206 points, outperforming Mawuli School, which secured 190 points, and OLA SHS, which finished with 162 points.

This year’s NPSC, being held on the theme, “Sexual and Reproductive Health of the Adolescent Child,” had each participating school receiving a sub-topic under the main theme, with KETASCO delivering a well-structured and compelling presentation on the topic, “Aligning Sexual and Reproductive Health Policies with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”

Contestants were assessed using four key criteria including content, public speaking skills, policy recommendations, and creativity — standards designed to reward both intellectual depth and effective communication.

KETASCO’s triumph was led by an outstanding all-female team made up of Miss Sheila Quarshie, Miss Hilda Amable, Miss Sheena Amakie, and Miss Jessica Michella Akakpo.

Their presentation stood out for its clarity, coherence, and strong policy advocacy, earning admiration from both judges and the audience.

The team was coached by Mr Edem Akpornorvi, Miss Irine Agbolosu, and Mr Bright Datsomor, who took the students through intensive weeks of research, rehearsals, and internal competitions to refine their skills before selecting the best to represent the school.

Mr Akpornorvi, Team Coordinator speaking to Ghana News Agency described the victory as the result of hard work and discipline and acknowledged the strong support from the school community.

“The team’s success did not come on a silver platter. We took them through vigorous training sessions including a domestic contest to select the best to represent the school.

On behalf of the team, we are so grateful to the staff, management, and the students who travelled with us to Ho to support us. We shall replicate the same at the national contest.”

With this accomplishment, KETASCO will represent the Volta–Oti Zone at the national stage, alongside Awudome SHS and Bueman SHS, who topped their respective groups.

This will be the third consecutive time KETASCO is competing in the NPSC at the national level after making it to the national finals and placing third in the last competition.

The latest victory reinforces KETASCO’s reputation as one of Ghana’s leading academic institutions, renowned not only for its strong classroom performance but also for its dominance in national competitions and co-curricular activities.
