Travellers are no longer required to remove shoes, belts, or laptops during security processing at the Kotoka International Airport.
This is because the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has officially launched a major upgrade to passenger screening protocols at Kotoka International Airport’s Terminals 2 and 3, introducing advanced security technology that significantly reduces checkpoint friction.
The new Computed Tomography (CT) scanners and Automated Tray Return Systems enable a streamlined process where liquids, aerosols, and gels (LAGs) can remain inside cabin baggage, provided they adhere to the standard 100ml volume restriction.

According to GACL management, the overhaul is a dual-pronged strategy: maintaining rigorous aviation safety standards while drastically improving passenger flow and experience.
The transition will be phased, with legacy equipment operating alongside the new systems in the coming days to ensure operational continuity.
