Mr. Samuel Tetteh Kwashie Morton, the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has led residents, assembly staff, and various stakeholder groups in a Sanitation Day exercise in Kpone, aimed at promoting cleanliness and improving environmental hygiene in the municipality.
The exercise, which saw enthusiastic participation from community members, involved desilting drains, sweeping streets, clearing refuse dumps, and weeding along major roads and public spaces.
Addressing the participants after the exercise, Mr. Morton advised residents to take the National Sanitation Day initiative seriously, stressing that maintaining a clean environment was a shared responsibility.
He noted that both the government and the assembly spend huge amounts of money every year to improve sanitation within the municipality and therefore urged residents to play their part by adopting and maintaining good sanitation practices at home and in their communities.
“We need a clean environment, and it is our collective responsibility as citizens to ensure that we achieve that,” the MCE emphasised.
Mr. Morton further cautioned that individuals who flouted the municipal sanitation by-laws would be dealt with according to the law, adding that the assembly would not hesitate to sanction anyone found dumping refuse indiscriminately or engaging in acts that endanger public health.
He also commended the environmental health officers, assembly members, and youth groups for their active involvement in the exercise and encouraged them to sustain the momentum to make Kpone-Katamanso one of the cleanest municipalities in the Greater Accra Region.
The Sanitation Day exercise forms part of the assembly’s efforts to improve waste management and promote healthy living among residents.
