The La General Hospital is set to be closed on March 1, 2020, to allow for a scheduled redevelopment of the facility.
The Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate and the Health Ministry have given instructions for the evacuation of the premises to end by the said sate.
In light of this, the hospital has scheduled a “gradual cessation of services and final closure” to direct activities of patrons going forward.
According to a memo from the facility’s Acting Superintendent to all staff, the Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Surgical Departments will stop booking patients for surgeries on February 18. Already booked patients will be transferred to other hospitals.
The OPD will also stop admissions as emergency patients will be stabilised and transferred.
The memo also stated that, on February 24, 2020, La General Hospital will refer remaining in-patients to sister facilities, stop night duties at OPD, Surgery, Medical and Paediatrics Wards.
OPD will run from 8 am to 8 pm within this period while the Labour Wards will be closed. However, the Obstetrics & Gynaecology department will continue night duty on the ward until all patients are discharged.
The facility will finally close down on March 1st to allow for the planned redevelopment to take place.
