Reverend Cephas Agbomson of the Chapel of Hope Church at Kadjebi, Oti Region, has called on parents to properly train and groom their children to become responsible adults.
He also cautioned parents against neglecting their roles towards their children, saying “Children were gifts from God, and must be nurtured with love, discipline, and wisdom.”
Rev. Agbomson who was addressing guests at a child-naming and outdooring ceremony held at Kadjebi as part of tradition, said early moral and spiritual guidance played a critical role in shaping a child’s future.
He quoted the Bible in Proverbs 22:6 – “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it,” saying parents must prioritise value-based upbringing in their homes.
He reminded families that every parent would one day be called to give an account of how they raised their children, not just before society, but also before God.
Rev. Agbomson also cautioned against excessive pampering of children, stressing the need for a balanced upbringing rooted in discipline and purpose.
He pointed out that parenting should not focus solely on material and social development, rather it must dwell on spiritual grooming, which must be a core component of child upbringing.
“The spiritual aspect of a child’s development matters just as much, if not more,” he emphasised.
The ceremony, attended by family, church members, and community leaders, served as a reminder of the collective responsibility to raise children who would contribute meaningfully to society.
