Let’s support peace programmes to protect students in conflict zones

Mr Seth Osei Acheampong, President, World Peace Volunteers, has called for the need to support peace education programmes to protect students and teachers in conflict zones.

He said the initiative was expected to ensure that all children, especially girls and boys, had access to quality education that includes lessons on conflict prevention and resolution.

Mr Acheampong made the call in a statement to mark this year’s International Day of Peace, which falls on September 21.

The day offers the world a unique opportunity to reflect and consider meaningful solutions to break the cycle of violence and conflict that continues to plague societies.

“For peace to be effective, we must take time to develop and test peacebuilding mechanisms that ensure a sustainable future.

“Peace sustainability is not a mirage; it is a reality we can build through comprehensive strategies that can be implemented across the globe,” he said.

Mr Acheampong urged Ghanaians to reflect deeply on the consequences of violence and to recommit to peacebuilding in their communities.

“Peace is one of the basic necessities of life. Peace is life itself, because life without peace is hardly worth living,” he said.

He urged all to pledge to teach the children the values of tolerance and mutual respect and the need to fight for peace and defend it with all our might.

“Let us never forget that peace does not occur by chance; it is the result of conscious and consistent efforts by people of goodwill, acting together for the common good.

“Peace that is secured through hard work, dedication, and commitment is peace that is lasting and desperately needed in today’s world,” he said.
