Mad rush in Accra, Kumasi as Ghanaians stock up before lockdown

Reports coming in from two of Ghana’s biggest cities indicate that Ghanaians have thronged major markets to stock up ahead of the impending lockdown.

Thousands of residents are busily shopping ahead of the lockdown on Monday, March 30.

Prices of goods and services are said to have skyrocketed due to the excess demand.

President Akufo-Addo on Friday, March 27, ordered a lockdown in some towns in Greater Accra and Ashanti Region.

The lockdown commences on March 30, 2020 in the listed regions and is expected to last for two weeks.

Providers of essentially services such as pharmaceutical companies, healthcare personnel, providers of food and others have been exempted.

The Judiciary, Legislature and the Executive arms of government have also been exempted.

President Akufo-Addo also said that individuals in the lockdown areas can only step out to get medicine, food, water and other essential commodities.
