Mahama Unveils Key Cabinet Appointments for Finance, Energy, and Justice

President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled his initial slate of ministerial appointments, naming Dr. Ato Cassiel Forson, John Jinapor, and Dominic Ayini to prominent cabinet roles.

According to a presidential statement on January 9, the nominations have been formally submitted to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, in line with Article 78 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana. The key appointments are as follows:

  1. Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson — Minister for Finance Designate
  2. Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor — Minister for Energy Designate
  3. Hon. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine — Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Designate

Speaker Alban Bagbin has since referred these three ministerial nominees to the parliamentary Appointments Committee for review and consideration. In his remarks, Speaker Bagbin noted, “I have received on your behalf a message from the office of the President, dated January 9, 2025. Hon. members, I will accordingly refer the nominees to the Appointments Committee for consideration and report to the house; it’s so referred.”

In response to the Speaker’s referral, Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh urged the nominees to prepare thoroughly for their upcoming vetting before the Appointments Committee.
