Majority Leader assures MPs of ongoing procurement process to fix faulty air conditioners

Mr Mahama Ayariga, the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business in Parliament, has assured members of Parliament (MPs) that steps are being taken to address the issue of dysfunctional air conditioners in their offices.

Mr Ayariga stated that procurement process was currently underway to secure replacement parts for the faulty units, which have been a source of concern for legislators.

His assurance came in response to a question raised by the MP for Nalerigu/Gambaga, Nurudeen Muhammed Mumuni, who sought clarification on efforts being made to repair the malfunctioning air conditioners.

The Nalerigu/Gambaga MP lamented that the situation was creating discomfort and inconvenience for MPs, warning that it could potentially contribute to absenteeism in the House.

In his reply, Mr Ayariga acknowledged the inconvenience but emphasized that the malfunctioning air conditioners should not be used as an excuse for MPs to absent themselves from parliamentary duties.

He argued that such reasoning would set a poor precedent, indirectly suggesting that civil servants should also stay away from work whenever their office air conditioners break down.

“The dysfunctional air conditioners must not be the reason MPs should not come to work, because it would indirectly tell civil servants not to go to work when their air conditioners are not working,” Mr Ayariga stated.

The Majority Leader reiterated that the procurement process was ongoing and assured MPs that the issue would be resolved in due course.
