Dr Akwasi Osei, CEO of the Mental Health Authority has called on the government to facilitate the introduction of a ‘Mental Health Levy’ to make funds readily available for the Authority.

Speaking to a sect of journalists, Dr Akwasi Osei said, the availability of funds for the Authority will ensure that, all mentally unstable people roaming the streets can be taken in and given proper care, to later be released into their communities.

He said: “As you go about your daily activities, doing things, you will be contributing to the ‘Mental Health Levy’, the fund. Once we have that fund, all the services we want will be fine and in one year or two, we will not be seeing patients on the streets in Accra, cities and our villages.”
