Ministry expresses regret over the loss of six young Ghanaians, extend condolences  

The Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo has expressed deep regret over the tragic stampede that occurred at the El-Wak Stadium in Accra where six young Ghanaians loss their loss. 

The accident also left many other youths injured. 

The stampede occurred when the young Ghanaians were in the process of seeking recruitment into the Ghana Armed Forces at the El-Wak stadium. 

The Ministry in a statement signed by the Sector Minister, acknowledged the courage and aspiration of the young people, who sought to serve their nation with honour and dedication. 

The Ministry extended its condolences to the bereaved families, and communities of the deceased, and conveyed its sincere prayers for the quick recovery of the injured. 

“Their passing is not only a loss to their families but also to our country,” the statement said. 

It stated, “We believe the recruitment aligns with measures to mitigate the unemployment situation among the youth in the country, which is of paramount concern to the government of Ghana and the Ministry.” 

The Ministry said it would be working closely with the Ghana Armed Forces and other relevant authorities to ensure thorough investigation was conducted into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. 

“We expect that the report of the investigations will provide clear recommendations and safeguards to ensure such accident does not reoccur,” it stated. 

The statement added, “We are committed to supporting measures that will safeguard the welfare of our youth in all future recruitment and empowerment initiatives. 

“The safety, dignity, and empowerment of Ghanaian youth remain at the heart of our mandate and situations such as this should not be allowed to undermine our collective resolve to supporting the development and empowerment of the youth of our dear nation.” 

“May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace and may their families find comfort in the prayers of the nation.”
