MP calls for review of travel protocols for Premier League clubs

Mr Dickson Kyere Duah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Berekum West in the Bono Region, has called for an urgent review to strengthen security travel protocols for Premier League clubs.

His call follows the fatal armed robbery attack on the Berekum Chelsea FC bus, which resulted in the death of Dominic Frimpong, a striker of the club, last night when the club was returning from Samrebio after playing their week 29 Premier League match against Samartex.

In a statement issued by his office and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) sports in Sunyani, Mr Duah indicated that: “It’s unacceptable that our sportsmen-who embody hope, unity and national pride-are exposed to such danger on our roads”.

He called for expeditious investigations, calling on the security services to bring the perpetrators to justice, urging that “The safety and security of our citizens must be treated as an urgent national concern”.

Mr Duah urged the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the Ghana Football Association, and the security agencies to work together in reviewing and strengthening the travel protocols of the clubs.

He condemned the robbery attack, describing it as barbaric and expressed his condolences to the club and the bereaved family, praying for the speedy recovery of the injured players.
