The MTN Ghana Foundation has cut the sod for construction of a GH¢9.7 million multipurpose students’ resource centre at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Tamale, to promote digital learning and innovation.

The facility, solely funded by MTN and expected to be completed in eight months, will serve as a hub for modern digital education, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and artificial intelligence training.

It will feature a 70-seater computer laboratory, robotics equipment, video conferencing facilities, a 100-seater hall, and access to courses on the MTN Skills Academy platform.

Mr Robert Kuzoe, Senior Manager of the MTN Ghana Foundation, said the centre would be integrated into UDS operations and open to other institutions, allowing wider access to digital learning opportunities.

“Through partnership with technical experts and local schools, the centre will offer training programmes that bridge the gap between education and empowerment, fostering a skilled workforce ready to meet the demands of the future,” he said.

He added that the project aligned with government’s digital education initiatives, including the One Million Coders Programme aimed at driving innovation and skills development.

Professor Mohammed Muniru Iddrisu, Principal of the Nyankpala Campus, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, said the project directly responded to UDS’s core mandate of blending theory with practice.

He explained that the centre would help students become problem-solvers and innovators, noting, “Ultimately, we will produce graduates who are not only job seekers but also job creators and leaders in the digital economy.”

Prof Muniru expressed appreciation to MTN for the support and urged students to take advantage of the facility when completed to enhance their skills and competitiveness in the digital space.

“This centre is for you. It is an investment in your potential. We challenge you to embrace it, maximise its offerings, and use it as a launchpad for your dreams,” he said.
