MTN Ghana has joined the global observance of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence with a series of sensitisation programmes aimed at empowering schoolchildren with knowledge on gender equality and non-violence.
As part of the initiative, the MTN Ghana Foundation engaged pupils of the New Asafo Basic and Junior High School in Kumasi, where students were educated on the need to shun all forms of abuse, particularly gender-based violence.

Mr. George Kyei Frimpong, Education Portfolio Advisor for the MTN Ghana Foundation, said the campaign formed part of MTN’s group strategy initiated in 2024, to promote safer communities across Africa.
He noted that the annual 16-day campaign, held in November, provided an opportunity to reach young people with messages on respect, equality, and the importance of reporting violence.
“The earlier the sensitisation begins, the better,” he said, adding that early awareness helped children grow with values that reject domestic violence and all forms of abuse.
This year’s activities focus heavily on schools nationwide, with outreach teams visiting selected schools in Kumasi, Koforidua, the northern sector and other regions, expected to climax at the Sacred Heart School in Accra.
At New Asafo, MTN organised a debate for boys and girls on the topic: “Teaching Boys and Girls the Same Content Will Prevent Violence.” The girls’ team won the contest and received MTN-branded souvenirs.
The MTN Ghana Foundation also donated tablets and ICT equipment to support the school’s computer laboratory to enhance digital learning.
School authorities expressed gratitude to MTN for prioritising the welfare and education of children, describing the gesture as timely and impactful.
Mr. Frimpong reaffirmed MTN’s commitment to championing gender equality and protecting vulnerable groups through continuous advocacy.
“MTN stands firmly against all forms of gender-based violence. We will continue to use our platforms to promote safe spaces, respectful relationships and equal opportunities for all,” he stated. The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is a United Nations-backed global movement held annually from November 25 to December 10 to raise awareness and galvanise action to end violence against women, girls and vulnerable groups.
