MTN Ghana has held a training on professional defensive driving for its staff as part of efforts to enhance their capacity, skills, knowledge and attitude required to ensure safety on the roads.
The day’s training, held in Tamale, was also in line with the country’s road safety regulations, which required regular trainings for drivers.
Chief Superintendent Alexander Kwaku Obeng, Director in-charge of Education, Research and Training at the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service, who facilitated the training, lauded MTN Ghana for collaborating with the MTTD to undertake the training.
He said it was in line with the collaboration that was needed within the national road safety strategy to enhance public sensitisation, education and awareness creation to ensure safer road usage by the public.
He said from January to October, this year, the country recorded more than 20,000 road crashes describing the situation as deeply worrying as the figure exceeded what was recorded during the same period last year.
He urged participants to serve as advocates for responsible road use within their families, organisations and communities.
He was confident that the training and MTTD’s collaboration with various stakeholders would help to protect vulnerable road users, improve public confidence and reduce road crashes, injuries and deaths.
