The Y’ello Ladies Network of MTN Ghana has held a health walk on breast cancer awareness in Accra as part of its ongoing commitment to women’s empowerment, workplace diversity, and public health advocacy.
The walk brought together hundreds of MTN Ghana employees, partners, and health advocates, with participants donning pink-themed apparel and holding placards bearing messages of hope and early detection.
The event sought to raise GH¢ 100,000 to support local charities focused on breast cancer education and treatment.
Speaking at the event, Ms. Antoinette Kwofie, Chief Finance Officer of MTN Ghana and Chair of the Y’ello Ladies Network, said the initiative reflected the network’s mission to inspire, guide, and empower women both within and outside the organization.
“Today, we are not only raising awareness about breast cancer the leading killer of women globally, but also reminding ourselves to stay proactive about our health, the Y’ello Ladies Network is proud to champion this cause while creating a community where women support one another to grow, learn, and lead,” she said.
Ms. Kwofie explained that the Y’ello Ladies Network, launched in March this year during International Women’s Month, has already become a strong internal platform for women’s development within MTN Ghana.
The network brings together all female employees, offering mentorship, leadership development, and health-focused initiatives designed to strengthen women’s participation in the company’s growth.
She added that since its establishment, the network had hosted a series of engagements on workplace well-being, leadership skills, and women’s health, creating safe spaces for open dialogue on challenges and growth opportunities.
“Sometimes in male-dominated industries like ours, women can feel overlooked. That’s why we’re intentional about building confidence, encouraging leadership, and reminding every woman that she has a place at the table,” she said.
Mr. Abdallah Ibrahim, Acting Chief Human Resources Officer at MTN Ghana, commended the Y’ello Ladies Network for driving inclusion and promoting gender diversity across the organization.
He said at MTN, diversity and inclusion are not just slogans but strategic goals.
“We are working to create an environment where everyone, including women and people with disabilities, can thrive and reach their full potential,” he said.
He highlighted that MTN Ghana’s commitment to inclusivity extends beyond gender. The company is expanding employment opportunities for individuals who are differently abled, such as persons with visual or hearing impairments.
Mr. Ibrahim revealed that MTN Ghana’s female representation has increased significantly in recent years.
“We have moved from 38% women in our workforce to about 43% today, and our target is to reach 50% by 2026, this is possible because we are deliberately recruiting, training, and promoting women through our graduate and national service programmes,” he said.
He encouraged male colleagues to continue supporting the network’s initiatives, noting that gender balance benefits the entire organization and contributes to national development.
“Women form a majority in society, yet their representation in leadership remains low, our goal is to change that by empowering women to build strong careers and lead confidently,” he said.
