My accusations will be submitted to an independent body, not to the OSP’s subordinates – Martin Kpebu

Private lawyer, Martin Kpebu has reiterated his refusal to submit evidence supporting his allegations against the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

According to him, he will only provide it to an independent investigative body, explaining that his public criticism of the Special Prosecutor’s leadership prompted an OSP summons.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, December 6, Mr. Kpebu noted that he honoured an invitation by the OSP, but to hand over evidence to officials who report directly to Agyebeng, would compromise fairness.

“I had already made allegations against the Special Prosecutor himself, so how could I turn around and give evidence to people who work under him?” he questioned.

Mr. Kpebu also noted that, the refusal led to rising tensions during his visit, resulting in what he described as mistreatment by OSP personnel and his subsequent arrest.

He claimed the incident reinforced his concerns about bias within the institution.

“The arrest and the way I was treated only proved my point. There was clear intimidation,” he said.

The lawyer maintained that, he cannot in good conscience submit materials to any officer under the Special Prosecutor’s authority, as it would, in his view, undermine the integrity of the process and expose him to the same conflicts of interest he has raised.

“How do I submit evidence about the Special Prosecutor to his own juniors? It simply cannot happen. There must be a neutral body,” he asserted.

He, however, assured that he is prepared to submit all evidence, but only to an independent board or impartial panel with no ties to the OSP’s leadership.

“I am ready to submit everything, but only to a properly constituted board. That is the only way to ensure justice and protect the rights of citizens,” Kpebu concluded.
