“My arrest was a suicide mission by Agyebeng,” says Martin Kpebu after OSP release

A private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu has described his arrest by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) as “entirely unjustified,” claiming it is part of a “suicide mission” by Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng.

“This whole episode is a suicide mission that Kissi Agyebeng’s OSP has embarked on. He may claim he has nothing to do with it, but he is the head of the institution,” Mr Kpebu stated.

Mr. Kpebu was detained on Wednesday, December 3, after reporting voluntarily to assist with an investigation into some corruption allegations he made against Mr. Agyebeng.

According to him, the arrest happened following a confrontation with security at the OSP entrance, before any investigators could question him.

“I did nothing that warrants an arrest. It felt unreal—almost like a fairytale—so I kept my spirits high,” he told the media.

However, a detailed social media statement by the OSP’s Director-SRC, Sammy Darko, on Thursday December 4, defended the arrest of lawyer Martin Kpebu as lawful and impartial.

It claimed that Mr. Kpebu “caused an obstruction” by disregarding security instructions when he arrived at their offices on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.

According to Mr. Darko, the lawyer reacted angrily to the reminder, insulted the guards, and insisted he could act as he pleased while threatening to report them.

The OSP claims he told the officers they were “nobodies” and that even their superior “would soon be removed,” leading to his arrest on suspicion of obstruction, an action the statement emphasized was executed “without force.”

Although later granted bail, the OSP notes that one of Mr. Kpebu’s lawyers subsequently “insulted officers and caused a scene,” but was removed “gently and without force.”

“Finally, the claim that the OSP “fell into a trap” is unfounded. The Office has not fallen for any trap. It has simply applied the law to protect its personnel and maintain order on its premises,” the statement noted.

Mr. Kpebu is, however, expected to report for further investigation at 11 a.m. today, Thursday 4, regarding the obstruction allegation, while a separate date will be set for the inquiry into his corruption claims.
