Officials of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) have arrested a senior production manager of a manufacturing firm in connection with an alleged attempt to smuggle cocaine through Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
The suspect, yet to be formally identified by authorities, is accused of hiding quantities of the narcotic inside packaged gari, a popular West African staple made from dried, grated cassava.
The arrest followed an intelligence-led operation at the airport, according to security sources familiar with the matter.
Sources revealed that the suspect oversees production at the company and is believed to have used his position to facilitate the concealment.
NACOC has confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with efforts focused on unravelling the full scope of the attempted shipment and identifying possible accomplices within a suspected trafficking network.
