Award-winning Ghanaian actress and television presenter Nana Ama McBrown has publicly confirmed that she is divorced from her husband of 12 years, Maxwell Mensah, saying the separation was mutual and amicable.
The announcement came in an interview on TV3’s New Day morning programme on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
Felicity Ama Agyemang, known professionally as Nana Ama McBrown, told host Cookie Tee that both she and Mensah agreed to end their marriage after honest discussions and shared fatigue with the relationship. She stressed that the split was free of bitterness and that they remain on good terms, continuing to communicate and co-parent their daughter.
“I’m the happiest right now. I have gone through divorce. Yes, I am divorced, and I am not ashamed to say it,” McBrown said. “We handled it beautifully. My ex-husband and I are cool. We speak yesterday, we speak today… we meet, I go to our house, I see my in-laws and everything.”
McBrown and Maxwell Mensah married in 2016 under customary law. The customary nature of the marriage meant that the divorce process required agreement between both families rather than lengthy formal legal proceedings. The couple have one daughter together.
Prior to the announcement, there had been widespread speculation and social media rumours about difficulties in the marriage, including suggestions of possible infidelity.
McBrown’s comments clarified that the split was not rooted in conflict but a joint decision reached after careful reflection.
In the interview, McBrown made it clear that she does not intend to remarry, though she said she would remain open to the possibility of having more children. “I have married for 12 years,” she said, urging public recognition of long-lasting marriages, especially among celebrities.
She also described her former husband as “a good man” who never mistreated her during their time together.
Despite the end of their marital relationship, McBrown said she continues to wear her wedding ring at Mensah’s request and remains close with his family, visiting his mother and maintaining familial ties.
McBrown is one of Ghana’s most prominent media figures, with a career spanning acting and television presenting. She rose to fame through roles in film and television and has hosted popular shows including Onua Showtime and previously United Showbiz. Her personal life has long been of public interest in Ghana and beyond.
Her divorce announcement this week has generated significant conversation on social media and in entertainment circles, with many noting the rarity of such personal transparency from high-profile personalities in Ghana’s entertainment industry.
Analysts say McBrown’s approach — framing the divorce as a respectful and cooperative transition rather than a bitter split — may influence public perceptions about marriage, separation and co-parenting among prominent figures.
McBrown spoke about happiness, peace and personal fulfilment as her current focus. She emphasised that ending her marriage did not equate to failure or shame, and challenged stigmas around divorce. She said her priority remains her daughter and her career, with marriage no longer part of her immediate personal goals.
