National House of Chiefs mourns its former President, Naa Prof. John Sebiyam Nabila  

The National House of Chiefs (NHC) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of  Naa Professor John Sebiyam Nabila, Wulugu Naba and former President of the House, describing him as a distinguished traditional ruler, statesman, and academic, whose life embodied humility, wisdom, and national service.  

In a condolence message signed by the Public Relations Officer, Mr. Stephen Owusu, on behalf of the President, the House said the late Naa Prof. Nabila’s death marked the end of an era and left behind an indelible legacy in Ghana’s traditional leadership and public life.  

The statement praised the former President, who was also the President of the Wulugu traditional area, for his invaluable contributions to national development, governance, and the advancement of chieftaincy in Ghana.  

“Naa Prof. Nabila was a distinguished statesman, academic, and traditional ruler whose life and service reflected wisdom, humility, and an unwavering dedication to national unity, culture, and development,” the statement noted.  

The late traditional ruler, who was also Chief of Kpasenkpe, served the nation in various capacities, including as Member of Parliament for the Walewale constituency, Minister of State for Presidential Affairs and Information under the Limann Government.  

He was also a pioneering figure of the Assemblies of God Church in Ghana and a respected Professor at the University of Ghana, Legon.  

As President of the National House of Chiefs from 2008 to 2016, Naa Prof. Nabila played a pivotal role in strengthening the institution’s relevance and credibility.   

Under his leadership, the House advanced its role in governance, conflict mediation, and the promotion of national cohesion.  

The statement further highlighted his deep understanding of both modern governance and traditional leadership, which made him “a bridge between the past and the future, a leader whose influence transcended generations.”  

The National House of Chiefs extended its heartfelt condolences to his wife, children, family, and the people of the Wulugu and Kpasenkpe Traditional Areas, as well as to the entire Mamprugu Kingdom, the statement said.  

“We join you in mourning this irreplaceable loss to the chieftaincy institution, the Mamprugu Kingdom, and the entire nation.  

May his noble soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement added.
