A 39-year-old lotto agent and branch organiser for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Agona West has been granted bail after pleading not guilty to charges stemming from social media posts targeting former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Prince Aboagye, also known online as Atutulagh, appeared before a court on charges of offensive conduct likely to breach the peace and publishing false news.
He was released on bail set at GHC200,000, with three sureties, one of whom must justify through landed property. The case has been adjourned to August 19, 2026.
Presenting the facts, Assistant Superintendent of Police Seth Frimpong told the court that the Ghana Police Service is the complainant in the matter.
According to the prosecution, law enforcement was alerted in July 2026 to a TikTok video posted on the account @atutulagh, allegedly operated by Aboagye, in which he made false and inflammatory remarks about the former vice-president.
The prosecution argued that the content was deliberately designed to provoke public disorder and undermine peace.
The court further heard that Aboagye was arrested on July 19, 2026.
During police interrogation, he admitted to recording and uploading the video but clarified that the claims made in the clip were untrue.
His release on bail comes as the case continues to draw attention to the growing legal scrutiny over social media content and its potential to incite tension, particularly in the lead-up to election-related discourse.
