Nestlé, GES strengthen partnership ahead of 2026 President’s Independence Awards

Nestlé Ghana Limited has reaffirmed its partnership with the Ghana Education Service as preparations begin for the 2026 President’s Independence Day Awards.

The renewed collaboration was highlighted during a courtesy visit by a Nestlé delegation to the Ghana Education Service, a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency said.

It said discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in education, sports development, and youth empowerment nationwide.

For the 2026 awards, 52 students are expected to be honoured for outstanding performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination.

They comprise Overall Best Public-School Students, male and female, from all 16 regions; Overall Best Private School Students in each region; and the Overall Best National Male and Female Students with additional educational needs, specifically visual or hearing impairments.

Selection will be based on raw examination scores.

The Nestlé delegation included Ms Cristina Macina, Vice President of Communications for Zone Asia, Oceania and Africa, who is on her first visit to Ghana.

She was received by Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, and other senior officials.

During the engagement, Ms Salomé Azevedo, Managing Director of Nestlé Ghana, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to inclusive sports development and noted that the MILO Under-13 programme provided equal opportunities for children from diverse backgrounds to develop their talents.

Ms Deborah Kwablah, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Manager of Nestlé Ghana, highlighted the President’s Independence Awards and the MILO Under-13 Football Tournament as key initiatives for promoting academic excellence and identifying young sporting talent.

Ms Patricia Ekaba, Head of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs for Central and West Africa, reiterated Nestlé’s commitment to youth development and support for national priorities in education and sports.

Ms Macina commended the collaborative relationship between Nestlé and the Ghana Education Service and stressed the importance of sustained investment in education and sports to nurture future leaders.

Professor Davis acknowledged Nestlé’s decades-long partnership with the Service and said it was ready to sign a new Memorandum of Understanding to expand collaboration into areas such as nutrition education and sustainability initiatives, including waste segregation in schools.

As part of her familiarisation visit, Ms Macina interacted with two beneficiaries of the 2023 President’s Independence Awards to assess the programme’s long-term impact. She also visited the Institute of Applied Science and Technology at the University of Ghana to explore ongoing collaboration with Nestlé Ghana.
