Newly inaugurated GMMB board urged to uphold high standards of accountability  

Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, has urged the newly inaugurated governing board of the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB), to uphold the highest standards of accountability.  

She urged the board to provide strategic leadership and uphold the highest standards of accountability in the management of Ghana’s cultural heritage.  

Inaugurating the Board, in Accra, the Minister said the inauguration was an important step toward revitalising the cultural and creative sectors.  

She thanked the members for accepting their appointments and urged them to bring integrity, professionalism and a strong sense of national service to their work.  

Madam Gomashie said the core responsibilities of the board, included aligning institutional programmes with national development priorities, strengthening transparency and good governance, ensuring effective resource management, and building productive partnerships with stakeholders.  

She expressed confidence in the caliber of the appointed members and acknowledged President John Dramani Mahama for approving their nominations.  

The Minister reminded members that the survival and effectiveness of the institution would depend largely on the quality of leadership they provide.  

Mr Michael Attipoe, Board Chairperson, described the appointment as a privilege, noting that many Ghanaians were equally qualified to serve.  

He assured the President and the Ministry that the board would work diligently to deliver on its mandate.  

The minister later sworn in, the Creative Arts Agency Board. The Chairman of the board, Mr Anthony Obeng Afrane, said his appointment was not ceremonial but a call to duty, pledging to lead with dedication and to help create an environment where artists could be supported and empowered.  

Mr Joseph Kwasi Amoah, Chief Director of the Ministry, said both boards would play critical roles in the development of their institutions and sector, and urged them to work tirelessly to meet the expectations of the sector and the nation.   Members of the GMMB Board include Mr Michael Attipoe (Chairperson), Mr Kwesi Essiel-Blankson, Mr Vitus Otto Langmagne, Mr Abdul Manaf Baba Walker, Ms Catherine Abla Nutsugah Mikado, Mr Benedict Kwasi Obeng and Prof. Frederick Dayor.
