The leadership of the Osu Traditional Area has warned that reports suggesting that a parcel of land situated near the Nigerian High Commission belongs to the state, are wrong.

Paramount Chief of the Osu Traditional Area Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI indicated that the Nigerian High Commission trespassed on a plot of land belonging to the Osu Stool.

In a press release to respond to the matter, Nii Kinka Dowuona VI stressed “it is only the Stool that has the mandate to grant lease be it expired or otherwise.”

The reaction of the traditional leadership comes after armed men reportedly besieged the Nigerian High Commissioner’s residence in Accra, with bulldozers demolishing a block of uncompleted apartments on the property on Friday night.

After the news broke, Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama condemned the incident describing it as a “criminal attacks.”

The Foreign Affairs Minister also laid claim to the parcel of land as belonging to Nigerian High Commission in Ghana.

“…demand urgent action to find the perpetrators and provide adequate protection for Nigerians and their property in Ghana”, he tweeted.

However, the Paramount Chief of the Osu Traditional Area, Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI says a Nigerian businessman with support of the High Commission trespassed on the parcel of land.
