Nollywood actress Doris Ogala threatens legal action against Pastor Chris Okafor over broken marriage promise

Nollywood actress Doris Ogala has publicly announced her intention to pursue legal action against Lagos-based cleric Pastor Chris Okafor after accusing him of reneging on a promise to marry her. The dispute has rapidly become a trending topic in Nigerian entertainment news, with Ogala seeking significant compensation and alleging emotional and financial harm arising from the alleged broken commitment.

In statements shared during a recent media conversation with Daddy Freeze, Ogala said the pastor made a clear commitment to marry her during a long-standing personal relationship that reportedly began in 2017. According to the actress, that assurance influenced several major decisions she made, including ending a previous marriage, in the belief that a future with the cleric was secure.

Her legal team, Synergy Law Partners, has taken the dispute a step further by issuing a formal demand letter to Pastor Okafor. The letter reportedly seeks ₦1 billion (about GHC8 million) in damages for what Ogala’s lawyers describe as breach of promise to marry, emotional distress, reputational harm, and related financial losses.

The pastor has been given a 21-day ultimatum to comply with the demand or face a formal lawsuit in a competent court.

According to court documents shared on social media platforms, Ogala’s lawyers allege that her relationship with Pastor Okafor involved significant personal reliance on his assurances.

They claim she was introduced to his family, attended events in his circle, and acted on representations that sufficed to create a legitimate expectation of marriage. The demand letter also lists communication records, photographs, videos, and financial transactions as potential evidence of the relationship’s depth and the promises made.

The conflict attracted wider attention when Pastor Okafor reportedly married another woman amid the controversy. The pastor’s new wife has since addressed the situation in public, describing their union as a divinely arranged partnership and speaking optimistically about building a family together.

Her remarks have added another dimension to the unfolding story, drawing reactions from observers across social media.

Ogala has denied any intention of malicious interference with the cleric’s personal life but insists she is entitled to compensation under legal principles governing breach of promise. She has stated publicly that she is prepared to present her evidence in court and that her decision to pursue legal remedies is grounded in the personal and professional toll the episode has taken on her.

At the time of writing, Pastor Chris Okafor has not issued a detailed public response to Ogala’s claims or the legal demand, and no court hearing has been scheduled.
