The North Tongu District Assembly has been ranked fifth among Ghana’s 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the 2025 Public Financial Management Compliance League Table (PFMCLT), emerging as the best-performing assembly in the Volta Region.
The recognition was presented to the Assembly on Wednesday by the Centre for Local Governance Advocacy (CLGA), with support from the European Union, in acknowledgement of its outstanding performance in public financial management, transparency and accountability.
Speaking after receiving the award, Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe, District Chief Executive (DCE) for North Tongu, described the achievement as a reflection of the Assembly’s commitment to prudent financial management, transparency and excellence in local governance.
She said the recognition demonstrated the collective efforts of the Assembly’s management and staff, in collaboration with key stakeholders, to strengthen accountability and improve service delivery.
Mrs Doe dedicated the award to the Assembly’s staff, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Presiding Member, Assembly Members, Heads of Departments, traditional authorities and development partners for their commitment to the district’s progress.
She expressed appreciation to all stakeholders for their continued support and pledged that the Assembly would maintain the high standards that earned national recognition.
“Recognition inspires us to work even harder to ensure efficient management of public resources and deliver quality services to the people of North Tongu,” she said.
Mrs Doe reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to promoting good governance, accountability and transparency while implementing policies and programmes aimed at accelerating the socio-economic development of the district.
The Public Financial Management Compliance League Table assesses the financial management performance of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies across the country by measuring compliance with public financial management regulations and promoting accountability in local governance.
