Voting commenced earnestly without hitches with about 2,152 delegates expected to cast their ballots, in the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s Techiman South Constituency Elections in the Bono East Region.
The delegates are deciding on 25 candidates who filed their nominations to contest for the various constituency positions of the party.
Mr George Agyapong Boampong, the Techiman South Constituency Elections and Research Officer of the NPP, said the candidates were vying for 11 constituency executive positions.
The Electoral Commission (EC) is conducting and supervising the elections at three polling centers, created at the Techiman Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Primary and Junior High School.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Techiman, Mr Boampong said 21 of the candidates were also contesting seven positions, including the chairmanship slot unopposed, adding that the delegates were drawn from 280 polling stations spread across 32 Electoral Areas.
He said the party in the constituency remained dedicated to ensure transparent and credible elections and urged the delegates to go out in their numbers and cast their ballots.
Mr Boampong urged the delegates and supporters of the party to remain decorous and guard against acts of lawlessness that could mar the peaceful conduct of the election and disturb the prevailing peace in the constituency.
The delegates included a representative from national, four regional executives, 18 constituency executive committee members, 10 council of elders, and patrons, as well as 160 Electoral Area executive committee members and 1,960 polling station executives.
