NPP lawyer asserts confidence as Supreme Court orders rehearing of disputed parliamentary results

Gary Nimako Marfo, legal counsel for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidates in four disputed constituencies, has expressed confidence in the legal process following the Supreme Court’s directive to the High Court to rehear cases concerning the collation and declaration of parliamentary election results. He emphasized that the Electoral Commission (EC) remains constitutionally bound to complete the collation and declaration of results in Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, Techiman South, and Ablekuma North.

Nimako reassured NPP supporters that the Supreme Court’s ruling primarily seeks to ensure procedural fairness, enabling both parties to present their cases. He maintained that “nothing has changed” regarding the legitimacy of the EC’s mandate to finalize the election results.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) had challenged the initial rulings, arguing that they were not granted a fair hearing. The Supreme Court’s decision to refer the matter back to the High Court reflects an effort to uphold procedural justice in the electoral process.

While the NDC welcomed the opportunity for a rehearing, the NPP remains steadfast in its position that the results, once properly collated, will affirm its candidates’ victories. The High Court is set to begin proceedings on the matter next week.
