The MCE underscored the importance of good sanitation, and said it was critical to the very survival of the people.
He said instead of keeping schoolchildren to march in the scorching sun, the Assembly decided to shift the focus to sanitation.
He expressed hope that the exercise would be sustained in the coming years.
Mr Arko-Nokoe also told the GNA that the clean-up exercise was the best substitute for the Independence Day Anniversary parade, saying it prevented wastage of the public funds.
