Oforikrom MCE commended for active participation in NCCE social auditing engagement

Mr Ahmed Anwel Sadat, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Oforikrom, has received applause for his active participation in a social auditing engagement organised by the Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).

Participants praised the MCE for remaining throughout the session and responding to all questions posed, describing his conduct as a strong demonstration of commitment to participatory democracy.

They noted that his presence reflected respect for citizens in his role as the President’s representative, particularly at a time when some Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) were often absent from similar engagements.

Some participants who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) commended Mr Sadat for bringing governance closer to the people and maintaining an open-door policy that gives practical meaning to decentralisation.

The engagement was organised by the NCCE with funding support from the European Union (EU) and GIZ under the “Strengthening the Rule of Law and the Fight Against Corruption in Ghana Project.”

The initiative aimed to deepen civic engagement, strengthen public accountability and enhance citizens’ participation in governance across 60 implementing districts.

Mr Sadat outlined the Municipal Assembly’s development agenda and reaffirmed his commitment to transparent and inclusive leadership.

He urged residents to take an active interest in the Assembly’s activities and to utilise local governance structures, to access information and lodge complaints on issues affecting development.

Madam Akua Zakaria, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of the NCCE, said the engagement was designed to collaboratively identify and address community needs.

She emphasised that the platform enabled citizens to hold duty bearers accountable and promotes bottom-up development.

Ms Rosina Owoo, the Municipal Director of the NCCE, underscored that accountable governance was essential to development.

She encouraged citizens to monitor projects in their communities as part of their civic responsibility and to actively contribute to discussions aimed at ensuring transparent and responsive leadership.
