One person has been confirmed dead following a diesel tanker fire at Asutuare Junction in the Eastern Region.
The fire, however, was successfully contained and extinguished by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The Service received a distress call at 0441 hours on June 28, 2026, and immediately deployed four fire pumps from Somanya, VRA, Akosombo, and Gbetsile to the scene.
The first crew arrived at 0530 hours, with the fire brought under control by 0603 hours and fully extinguished at 0630 hours.

The tanker and its entire contents were destroyed in the blaze.
One person, believed to be the driver, was found burnt beyond recognition at the scene, while the driver’s mate was rescued and rushed to Akuse Hospital for medical attention.
The operation was led by StnO II Achisey of the Somanya Fire Station.
Authorities have since launched investigations to determine the cause of the fire.
