In a ceremony rich with tradition and symbolism, His Imperial Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has conferred one of the highest Yoruba cultural titles upon President John Dramani Mahama.

President Mahama was formally installed as the Aare Atayeto Oodua of the Source, a title interpreted as “the President who reorders the global space for the good of humanity.”

The prestigious honour was bestowed in recognition of Mahama’s distinguished leadership, his steadfast advocacy for global cooperation, equity, and sustainable development, and his broader impact beyond the borders of Ghana.

The colourful installation at the Ooni’s palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State, followed days of traditional preparations, customary rites, and cultural observances.

Dignitaries, chiefs, and community members gathered within the richly adorned palace precincts to witness the historic event, which underscores the deep cultural and diplomatic bonds between Ghana and Nigeria.

This title places President Mahama among an exclusive cadre of leaders celebrated for their pan-African influence and humanitarian vision.

It also marks his second major Yoruba honour, following his installation as the Aare Atolase of Offa by the Offa Kingdom in Kwara State in 2015.

The Ooni of Ife, one of the most revered traditional monarchs in Yorubaland and across Africa, continues to leverage his stature to promote cultural heritage, interfaith harmony, and socio-economic progress.
