Folks a few days ago I wrote something on my Facebook wall and got a lot of bashing for it. What exactly was my crime?
I had raised a harmless concern about why the new Asaase Radio, an English Speaking Urban Channel was operating on a Frequency of 99.5FM, a frequency so close to Joy 99.7FM also an urban English speaking channel?
A lot of people called me out as a propagandist, obviously they were short sighted, but I got the bashing in the end.
Folks,the mere sight of Asaase’s 99.5 for me was extremely mischievous, so mischievous that i just couldn’t ignore.
Right from the beginning I knew Gabby Otchere Darko and his folks who have had serious problems with Multimedia since Manasseh Azure’s “Millitia in the heart of the City expose were up for some slaying…and this time their target was our very own JoyFM, the pioneer of contemporary English radio in Ghana(arguably).
Today, I have been vindicated by Multimedia themselves with an alert on their Facebook wall.
Barely a few days after Asaase has gone up stream, JoyFM listeners have started experiencing interferences in the signals.
Some people in some places can’t even tune in at all…
But hey, that is just the least of the things JoyFM should be worried about right now.
Asaase has been strategically placed so close that people would tune in to Asaase thinking they are actually listening to Joy.
It’s not coincidence, its deliberate.
With very few English speaking channels in the Capital, when you are looking for 99.7 and you get 99.5FM and you hear them speaking English in the usual JoyFM tempo, you would stop and listen thinking you on Joy but No you on Gabby’s Asaase radio.
With time, JoyFM without realizing would loose so much audience that their clients would complain of low patronage, advertisement would be whisked elsewhere, they won’t be able to break even and it will only be a matter of time and the once lucrative JoyFM would be a dead horse.
With millions of dollars being pumped into Asaase’s content development, they would produce very enticing contents such that by the time people realise that they were not listening to JoyFM all the while, they would have become almost addicted to the new Asaase radio.
Sound like something that’s easy to achieve when you have the technical regulator as your employee.
The bottom line is, Asaase is more than a radio station.
Asaase is a slayer channel to eliminate JoyFM.(let me add allegedly and go my somewhere in peace)
I bet the original idea was to close down JoyFM, we all saw the recent heckles from the NCA and the back and forth thing with the spectrum issue.
Realizing the possible public backlash that could meet any closure of JoyFM, plan B was activated.
As for Gabby and his people we just aren’t surprised!, we just can be, there is nothing they can do that can surprise some of us anymore.
We already know what they are made of.
The person we can all be disappointed in will be a certain information Minister who is part of this whole grand agenda to kick JoyFM off curve.
I don’t know about you but I can never be this ungrateful to a hand that has once fed me and made me who I am.
But hey, who am I to say the Chief Priest’s teeth is red???
