A cluster of Civil Society Organisations (CSO), yesterday marched to present a petition to the president to demand the passage of the Affirmative Action Bill to law, by March 2020.
The group says, it is simply demanding what is stipulated by the 1992 constitution, for all persons to be equal before the law; and all other supporting legislation and policies.
Making their case, the group says it is demanding that;
- Cabinet and the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, introduce the Affirmative Action Bill in Parliament by March 2020.
- Parliament, under the leadership of the Honourable Speaker, to prioritise and pass the Affirmative Bill in this seventh (7th) Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
- The President of Ghana, being the African Union Gender Champion and Co-Chair of the Sustainable Development Goals to double his efforts and demonstrate commitment towards achieving these targets by influencing the passage of the Affirmative Action Bill into and Act before the end of his four-year tenure.
