Thousands of residents and indigenes from Avenor including the Chiefs and Queenmothers, clad in traditional red attire, have participated in the annual pilgrimage to ‘Datsutagba’.
The traditional exercise, formed part of this year’s ‘Avenor Tutudoza’ which is on the theme “Securing the Future of Avenor through Skills Acquisition, Employment, and Economic Growth.”
Togbui Tali Gafatsi III, Chairman of the Planning Committee (CPC) explained to the GNA that the exercise remained an important event on the festival calendar.
He expressed high optimism for greater future patronage during the festival activities, saying ‘This festival is already catching up with the people both locally and internationally.”
Torgbui Tali further commended all participants for adhering to their directives for a successful pilgrimage.
He disclosed that the festival would also include the swearing of allegiance to the Paramount Chief of Avenor by all newly installed chiefs at Avenorpeme, the Traditional town of Avenor.
The pilgrimage, which commenced at about 0800 hours from Akatsi Four-Junction to the site, saw several participants amidst singing of war songs by the various ‘asafo’ groups from the Area.
The historic ‘Datsutagba’ site, located within Akatsi South, between Torve and Yaluvi, remained one of the tourist sites in Volta after a war in 1866, when Mama Yakagbe (late), alongside her gallant male warriors, defeated their enemies.

The festival would be climaxed by a grand durbar on Saturday, November 29 at the Akatsi main lorry park, where dignitaries are expected to attend.
‘Avenor Turudoza’ is the rebranded festival celebrated by the people of Avenor under the royal patronage of Togbe Dorglo Anumah VI, President of the Avenor Traditional Council and Paramount Chief of Avenor Traditional Area.
Several activities have been lined up for this year’s celebrations.
