The Ghana Police Service has arrested Eric Afoakwa, a convicted fraudster also known by the alias “Chad,” who had been evading justice since his conviction in 2019.
The arrest comes after a coordinated intelligence-led operation, foiling his attempt to flee the country.
Afoakwa was convicted in absentia by the Accra High Court, presided over by Justice Georgina Mensah Datsa, on five out of six criminal counts, including money laundering, defrauding by false pretences, forgery of official documents, and tax evasion.

He was sentenced to a total of eight years’ imprisonment, to run concurrently, and ordered to refund $132,660.00 to the complainant.
Following the court’s judgment, Afoakwa went into hiding, prompting the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to declare him wanted and appeal to the public for information on his whereabouts.
On the morning of July 6, 2026, acting on a direct directive from the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), operatives from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit tracked and arrested the convict at a location in Accra as he was making final preparations to depart the country. He was taken into custody without incident.
Afoakwa will be handed over to EOCO to facilitate the full enforcement of the court’s sentence and restitution order.
The Ghana Police Service reaffirms its commitment to inter-agency collaboration and assures the public that no fugitive will be allowed to undermine the nation’s judicial process.
We remain resolute in bringing all wanted persons to face the full rigours of the law.
